The Government of Alberta is contacting residents whose information may have been affected in a theft of a van that was carrying government mail.
The van was stolen on June 23 while driving to deliver mail in Red Deer. It was carrying incoming and outgoing mail that may have contained personal information. The van has been found, but the contents are still missing.
The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) has been notified of the theft and the government says they continue to update OIPC regularly.
The Government is asking anyone who sent mail in the Red Deer area to the provincial government through Canada Post in the days leading up to June 23 is asked to call the department they were sending the mail to, to ensure items were received.
To find contact information for those offices you can call 310-0000 between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.,  Monday through Friday, or visit Government staff directory on the Government of Alberta Website and type in the name of the person you mailed.
The province says they have contacted all other couriers who are under contract to deliver government mail, instructing them to review security procedures with their drivers.
