WPD Ambulance is hosting a food drive for the Salvation Army Food bank.
The emergency service parked an ambulance in front of the Lloydminster and District Co-op on Tuesday, October 6th, and plan to park in front of Sobey’s on Wednesday, October 7, and Safeway on Saturday, October 9, between 12 p.m and 5 p.m both days.
EMT Jaime Boughton says they want to be involved in the community.
“I want people to recognize that we’re not only there for them in an emergency,” Boughton said. “We’re here for the community all the time. We go to sporting events, we go to schools, we go to bike talks, things like that. We just want to be involved, and we know that the community needs [this food] so badly. Times are tough on people right now, so we want to show that we care, and we’re there for you regardless of what you need.”
Boughton also says that the situation at the food bank is desperate.
“They were at the point of almost empty shelves,” she said. “People are accessing them way more than usual just because of the dips in the oil industry… [The food bank is looking for] basically any non-perishable items. Any pastas, sauces, soups, things like that. A lot of baby and children’s stuff is necessary too. Granola bars, baby food, those squishy fruit things that you can find, all that kind of thing that people wouldn’t normally think to donate are what they really need.”
Boughton says she hopes the donation will help less fortunate families celebrate their Thanksgiving.
