A local couple is going on a quest to end MS.
Wally and Nicole Rolfes of Lloydminster are doing their first, ‘Believe Sled Ride to End MS,’ which will get underway February 21st and the countdown feature on the website is already ticking away. The couple will be snowmobiling across Saskatchewan to raise funds and awareness for the Lloydminster Chapter of the MS Society of Canada.
“We do a lot of skidoo trips in northern Saskatchewan, north of Lloydminster here, and we just love doing this,” says Wally, excitedly.
“You get out, get some fresh air, and we decided we were going to turn it into a fundraiser. We’re doing this because it’s different…we live in a country that has snow half the year, so why not take advantage of it, right?”
The trek will take approximately 10 days, during which they’ll travel from Goodsoil to Yorkton and make 3 major stops in Meadow Lake, Prince Alberta, and finally, Yorkton on March 1st.
Wally’s wife, Nicole, says the couple’s goal is to raise $15,000 but they would be elated to surpass that mark. Nicole, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012, knows the journey will be a challenge but she’s up for it.
She says, “I absolutely love snowmobiling. However, I’m from Manitoba and our trails are a lot flatter out there than out here…I’ve come out to quite a few challenges riding on the hills. The last couple years, my husband and I have been doing the trails up north, in Saskatchewan, and I feel that I can conquer that. And if I can conquer that, I can conquer MS.”
