City looking for public feedback on museum and historical services

The City of Lloydminster is asking residents to share their ideas on what an ideal museum would look like for the community and how the city should preserve the local history of the area.

Residents can complete a survey, share memories of the Lloydminster Cultural and Science Centre (LCSC) and give their thoughts on future art programming and exhibits on the Your Voice Lloyd website from March 1st to the 22nd. Feedback will then be taken in and help guide the direction for the city’s museum archival services and the new facility.

“We want to ensure residents and user groups that used the former Lloydminster Cultural and Science Centre have the opportunity to weigh in on the facilities programming, community events and archival services,” says Tracy Simpson, Executive Director of Community Development Services. “Feedback received during this engagement process will be considered in the future vision and identity of the community’s museum and archival services.”

In 2019, an assessment of the LCSC found the facility was no longer usable without significant upgrades. In a meeting in September 2020, city council voted in favour of leasing a temporary space at 4207 44 Street and demolishing the old building which was deferred from the 2021 budget. Construction crews broke ground on the new site in November and the facility is expected to be open in Fall 2021.

Also during 2020, the city brought in the Lloydminster Regional Archives as a city service taking it over from the Lloydminster and District Centennial Commemorative Association (LCCA). The LCCA would continue as a separate non-profit organization and act as a fundraising arm for archival projects.

Anyone who isn’t able to access the website can contact the city at 780-875-6184, Ext. 2322 to receive a printed version of the engagement session.
