Second wildfire burning in the province forces evacuation

A wildfire is burning out of control in Lac Ste. Anne County, northwest of Edmonton.

The fire has now prompted mandatory evacuation for the hamlet of Glenevis.

The wildfire is on the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Reserve between the western boundary of Highway 765, east to Range Road 41, and north to township road 560.

Schools and some houses on the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Reserve have been evacuated according to a spokesperson for the First Nation.

Residents are being instructed to go to Cherhill Community Center, where a reception centre has been set up.

Currently, the fire remains confined to the northwest corner of the reserve.

People in Lac Ste. Anne County are being advised to close doors, windows, and vents and to follow the directions of local authorities.
