SLGA sending funds Lloydminster’s way

Local community groups and organizations across the province will be getting some money from the Saskatchewan government.

Announced June 24, 2016, the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is giving $2,000,000 in grants to organizations that raise funds through licensed charitable gaming.

The Minister responsible for the SLGA, Don McMorris, says recipients will range from fire departments, to youth sports teams and clubs, to seniors programs.

In total, Lloydminster organizations will receive $13,721.89, divvied up between several different charitable groups.

Recipients and amounts:

  • Lions Club of Lloydminster Corp. — $389.59
  • Lloydminster Region Health Foundation Inc. — $3,558.50
  • Lloydminster Rescue Squad Inc. — $2,504.94
  • Lloydminster Rotary Club — $5,031.81
  • Lloydminster Ukrainian Cultural Association — $136.25
  • Meridian Youth Soccer Association — $1,575.80
  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 39 — $525.00

Meanwhile, Meadow Lake and surrounding area is getting $61,381 and North Battleford and surrounding area is receiving $77, 679.

Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingo, raffles, breakopens, Texas Hold ‘em poker and Monte Carlo events are eligible for the quarterly grant.

The grant is equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised from the event, to a maximum grant of $100,000 annually.

Charities do not have to apply to receive the grant.  SLGA obtains the necessary information to calculate the grant from the paperwork submitted by the group or organization.
