New facility to be built at Holy Rosary

The Lloydminster Catholic School Division (LCSD) and Synergy Credit Union have announced their partnership in an upcoming project.

On Thursday, August 25, the Division held a press conference to unveil new information about a facility to be built on the grounds of Holy Rosary High School in town.

The project is a joint venture to be undertaken with Synergy as their primary community partner, and Synergy’s sponsorship will give them the naming rights of the facility for the next 15 years, to be called the ‘Synergy Vault,’ home of the Holy Rosary Raiders.

A press release sent out by the LCSD describes the facility as “a multi-purpose indoor facility designed to meet the needs of sports groups in the region.” Plans for the building put it at 23,000-square feet and it will include an artificial-turf athletic field large enough for practice space for football, soccer, baseball, rugby and other sports and activities.

Much to the delight of the community, the Division will be looking out for other potential partners in sports and recreation groups, who will be able to use the Synergy Vault throughout the year.

“We want to do something nice for the community; that’s a big part of it, and I think what will end up happening. What we’d prefer to happen, is that we get three or four main partners that would like to use it consistently. You know, like one group will have it one day and another group will have it another day. So absolutely, it will get used for things before and after school by community groups,” explains Director of Education, Aubrey Patterson.

This addition, in the form of the The Synergy Vault, is going to be just the first phase in the Division’s strategic expansion plan to accommodate increasing student numbers, especially the number of students interested in Holy Rosary’s physical education programs.

“It’s a 12-month additional space for Phys. Ed. instruction, high-performance Phys. Ed., and training, during and after school. We’re going to use it also with our elementary schools extensively,” says Patterson.

Future expansion for Holy Rosary is pending approval, but if all goes through, will include a second gymnasium, more field developments and environmental projects that will add to the beautification of the school’s neighbourhood, complete with walking paths and green space.

Synergy Credit Union’s involvement is the result of the business’ longstanding relationship with the LCSD, in working together to fulfill needs of Lloydminster and surrounding area.

Patterson says both entities are likeminded in their commitment to serving the community well.

“Synergy Credit Union is honoured to be a part of such an important project in our community with the Lloydminster Catholic School Division,” says Gord Thiel, Synergy Credit Union’s Lloydminster Branch Manager.

“This is a facility the entire region will benefit and will help bring people together for years to come.”

Construction of the facility will begin this fall and the facility is expected to open its doors in January.

According to Patterson, budget numbers aren’t available for another few weeks as LCSD is still tendering several aspects of the project to different businesses.
