Kitscoty RCMP say that a 21 year old woman has died after a lawn mower fell on her while working for the Village of Dewberry yesterday.
Kitscoty Detachment Sergeant Juan Huss says the female was discovered by a member of the community.
“A person was walking down the street of Dewberry, and observed a person underneath a large ride-on lawn mower, so he ran across the street to the fire department and asked for assistance to get the lawn mower off of the person.”
He says the fire department was able to get the lawn mower off of the woman and begin performing CPR until EMS arrived. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
He says their investigation did not turn up anything criminal and no charges were laid. However, an investigation is now being conducted by Occupational Health and Safety.
Huss reminds residents to ensure they are safe at work.
“If you are working underneath equipment, you should make sure that it is blocked off properly, so that if the device that holds it up, or jacks it up, there is a secondary backup to that and it protects the person from getting injured.”
