Weekend Fire Destroys Clubhouse at Loon Lake Golf Course

Early Sunday morning fire crews were alerted to a blaze on the Loon Lake Golf Course. Kirk Munro, who sits on the Board of Directors for the golf course, says by the time crews arrived the clubhouse and pro-shop were already engulfed in flames.

Munro says, “the clubhouse itself was built by volunteers by enlarge. They originally went into the bush, cut 50, 000 or more feet of lumber and it was built by volunteers so it has quite an impact on the community.”

The golf course is closed for today, but Meadow Lake Golf Course has said they will honour all memberships.

“The fact that Meadow Lake opened their course to our members just shows the feeling of community we have between different golf courses and we appreciate it very much,” says Munro.

Munro adds they do plan to have the golf course running again tomorrow with a temporary pro-shop in place. He goes on to say the next step for the golf course is to begin clean up and reconstruction.

The fire is under investigation, a cause is unknown at this time. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
