Charges Laid in Robbery and Extortion Case in St. Paul

Justin Cardinal from Elk Point is facing multiple charges after St. Paul RCMP responded to a robbery that occurred in a St. Paul park.

RCMP say a man and a woman approached a person and demanded they hand over a cell phone. The victim handed one over. The male suspect then allegedly told the victim in order to get the phone back they would have to pay a sum or the suspect would find the victim. The victim then fled the scene and was not injured.

Police located the male suspect a short time later at a nearby residence. He was arrested and taken into police custody.

Justin Cardinal has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Extortion without a firearm
  • Intimidation
  • Mischief under $5000.00
  • Obstruction of a police officer

Cardinal was released with court conditions after a hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on July 20.
