Local Business Helps Out The Lloydminster Men’s Shelter

The Lloydminster Men’s Shelter is getting a helping hand from Original Joe’s.

The restaurant recently moved and decided to donate two large coolers and shelving from their old location to the Men’s Shelter.

“The cooler space will be used to store a lot of food, purchased food and sometimes we get donations from the public and this way we will be storing the food more safely,” says Heather Gray, the Executive Director for the Lloydminster Men’s Shelter.

She adds, “these were items, at present, we were trying to budget for and we were planning to purchase. It is a major financial contribution to us in that these items were donated and now it will help relieve some of our budget concerns.”

Gray says they are thankful for the support.

“We get a lot of support from the community which we greatly appreciate, in the way of food and clothing, sometimes money. The food and clothing is a direct benefit to the client, it goes directly to them and the money helps relieves the pressures from our budget. We are government funded but under funded.”

Heading into Winter, the Men’s Shelter is looking for some specific donations.

“For our residents we need outerwear, like jackets and mitts and toques. Inside, we always need hygiene supplies, in the way of toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, those are kind of the essentials. We’re always in need of those items,” says Gray.

The Lloydminster Men’s Shelter provides safe temporary emergency housing for homeless adult males aged 18 and older.
