Council Votes To Support Parade of Lights

The third annual Parade of Lights will have some help from the City for this years event.

Council voted on Monday to sponsor the parades insurance at a total cost of $600. The City will also be responsible for placing barricades along the designated route of the Parade, and supplying RCMP/Peace Officers and other resources the night of the event.

The parade route starts at 57 Street and 50 Avenue travelling south to 46 Street and 49 Avenue, ending at 5521-49 Avenue. The Parade Committee is expecting approximately 700 parade participants, 70 to 100 floats and 7,000 to 8,000 onlookers.

In its first year, the Parade of Lights was able to raise approximately $600 for the Stollery Children’s Hospital, last year $5500 was raised for the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation (LRHF). Organizers say they hope to continue to make the event even larger. This years donation will be going towards LRHF once again, to help with the Pediatric Ward in the Lloydminster Hospital.

The parade will be held on December 21.
