Lloydminster and District SPCA Starting “Giving Tuesday”

Tuesday, November 28th is “Giving Tuesday” at the Lloydminster and District SPCA. The program calls attention to sponsorships for pets at the centre. People or businesses can pay the adoption fees, which they say could be an incentive people to adopt.

“What we’re hoping with Giving Tuesday is that people is if they can’t adopt themselves they will sponsor an adoption, so that when we do our “Home For The Holidays” campaign a lot of the animals that go home end up being sponsored,” says Executive Director Lloydminster and District SPCA Jon Punshon.

“It helps to offset our costs as a result of having the adoption fee waived a little bit,” Punshon adds. “We tend to lose a little bit in cost recovery. Sometimes that really helps with our longer residents as well that have been in the shelter a long time. If they’re sponsored it will help to bring some attention to that animal and hopefully helps them find a home a little quicker.”

The sponsorship program runs year-round. Information about adoption sponsorship can be found on the SPCA’s Website.
