Bonnyville paramedic killed in crash on Highway 897

Bonnyville Paramedic Cameron Griffiths was killed in a crash near Marwayne Wednesday. RCMP say they responded just before 10:00 a.m. to the two vehicle crash on Highway 897 on the south end of the North Saskatchewan Bridge. RCMP believe that a northbound SUV lost control and collided with a southbound pickup truck. There were icy road conditions at the time of the collision which may have been a factor in the crash.

41-year-old Griffiths was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured but a female paaenger was air lifted to an Edmonton hospital via STARS with serious non-life threatening injuries. Three other adult occupants of the truck were taken hospital with minor injuries.

The Alberta Paramedics Association identified Griffiths in Facebook post that announced they will also be raising fund in support of Griffiths wife Jaimie. Donations can be made until January 4 through the Alberta Paramedics Association Help Fund.

The association says “rural EMS is a close knit community and this has impacted everyone deeply.”
