LABIS continuing brain injury survivor walking program

The Lloydminster and Area Brain Injury Society is continuing to run their brain injury survivor walking program, which they say helps people deal with life after their injury.

The program meets every Tuesday from one to 2:30 P.M. at the Servus Sports Centre. LABIS Executive Director Michelle Neufield says the program can help progress for someone surviving a brain injury.

“Well isolation plays a huge roll after someone has sustained a brain injury. So this program gets everybody out into the community and gets them some physical exercise while they’re at it.”

Neufield adds that many people who have a brain injury don’t necessarily reflect it on the outside, and this program being open to the community gives them a chance to understand that.

“People have build friendships by attending the program and people are even going to the gym on their own time, which is great.”

People can get involved or find more information on the program by calling the LABIS or just by dropping by the Servus Sports Centre on Tuesdays.
