Manslaughter and arson charges laid in Makwa Sahgaiehcan fire

Two people are facing charges after a house fire on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation which killed 32 year oldĀ Kristen Faye Cantre.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene of the fire January 7th. The home had already been evacuated but one woman was unaccounted for. After investigation on scene a deceased person was located, and an autopsy later confirmed that it was Cantre.

On January 18thĀ 19 year-old Skye Noltcho andĀ 18 year-old Shandon Chief, both from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation were arrested in connection with the fire. Both have been charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of arson with disregard for human life.

Noltcho appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday Morning. Chief appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court also on Monday.
