City of Lloydminster looking at a possible Canada 150 legacy project

The City of Lloydminster was approached by Mosaic Canada Murals to produce a community mural for Canada 150.

The project requires 150 murals to be created by communities across Canada that will celebrate their diversity. The mural will be a physical art piece in the Border City, and could also be viewed online, with the possibility of a commemorative book or travelling exhibit in the future.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says that this is a definite want and is an unbudgeted cost.

“Is there a possibility for some joint funding and cooperation within local service groups and organizations? We’d certainly be glad to accept their support if they were interested.”

There are some details that still need to be decided on such as a location, organizational support from the community and space for the mural.

“We’re looking at minimum of 8 by 8, 8 foot by 8 foot square so or an 8 by 12 so I think that’s certainly very important to find a location before we say let’s go ahead and then we come back and go oh we don’t have a location.”

Depending on the size the costs can go anywhere from $12,500 to $15,000.
