RCMP plan to continue targeted enforcement initiatives in West-Central Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan RCMP have released results from a one day targeted enforcement initiative in the Onion Lake area.

The program ran from January 19th to 20th and worked with members of the Onion Lake RCMP, Battlefords General Investigation Section, Police Dog Services, Emergency Response Team and Traffic Services. They conducted traffic stops, executed arrest warrants and checked on conditions and curfew breaches. 18 arrests were made, 24 criminal charges laid and 54 tickets given out.

This initiative was part of a larger program in West-Central Saskatchewan, including Turtleford and The Battlefords. Police say based on positive results they plan establish a team to continue the program. They will use this team for “strategic, high visibility patrols; tracking chronic, prolific offenders; tackling street-gang related activity and executing arrest warrants.”

RCMP say they will also continue to work with community leaders to identify issues and work on crime reduction strategies.
