Local charities feeling the love from “Husky Has Heart”

10 local charities will have money for community initiatives after a donation from Husky Energy Lloydminster.

Husky employees banded together to donate $146,000 to The Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation, Lloydminster Hanidvan Society and the Kinette Society’s “Telemiracle” event, among others.

Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation CEO Malcolm Radke says they are very grateful for the donation, which will help provide up to the minute upgrades at Lloydminster Hospital.

“This particular cheque goes into a fund called “Greatest Needs” for the hospital. So if last minute the hospital calls us up and says ‘hey, we really need this covered off and we can’t get it in our budget for another year and a half but the people need it now.’ We say ‘no problem here’s the money.'”

Radke adds that part of the donations will be going towards helping Husky build a heliport that the hospital can use, and a new CT Scanner.

Lloydminster Handivan Society Manager Joseph Sproull says this donation will help them modernize services.

“Donations like this will actually assist us in bringing us into the 21st century. When I first started we were still using archaic hand ledgers. In the last four years I’ve watched it grow from hand ledgers and pieces of paper to computer programs, customized tracking sheets and in the future we really want to move forward into going with electronic boarding passes, electronic payments. It’s just going to make life even easier.”

Husky opens the “Husky Has Heart” campaign yearly, and they say they are beginning developments for next year right now.
