Lloydminster and District SPCA looking for animal-minded board

The Lloydminster and District SPCA is looking for animal-minded people to come join their team.

The animal shelter currently needs four people or more to join it’s board of directors, which oversees and advises on matters related to the shelter over a two-year minimum term. The commitment requires a director to be at the shelter’s monthly meetings, and be a presence at the shelter’s public events.

Executive Director of the SPCA Jon Punshon says that the aren’t any set in stone prerequisites to joining the board, however there are certain assets someone could bring to the table.

“We would certainly like to attract people that have perhaps been on a non-profit board prior, and perhaps if they have expertise in a certain field, for example a field like governance, fundraising, philanthropy, marketing. Those types of areas. Certainly any financial or book-keeping would be considered an asset.”

Someone interested in the becoming a board member files out a board application and provides a criminal record check. At that point they can attend a meeting to see if it is right for them. Punshon adds that the SPCA has a vision of the ideal candidate.

“We want to make sure that they support our vision, our mission and our direction, moving forward obviously with our partnership with Lloydminster and surrounding area. A commitment to animals in our area e and speaking on behalf of the animal welfare issues in our community.”

Applications are now open on the SPCA’s website. Residents also can meet with the board at the shelter’s “Cat Brewery” event, March 5th at the 4th Meridian Brewing Company.
