As Lloydminster faces a fresh hit of winter weather, Sask Energy is warning residents to avoid increasing the risk of natural gas leaks.
Sask Energy receives increased calls in the winter about natural gas leaks. This can be caused by damage to gas meters due to heavy snow and ice buildup and from snow removal tools such as snowblowers. Melted snow that has frozen over rooftop equipment can also increase the risk.
Sask Energy says there are ways residents can avoid this, such as keeping the gas meter, regulator and shut-off valve free of snow and ice, removing built up ice and snow by hand, not kicking or hitting the meter to remove build up and not using a snowblower anywhere near the meter.
The company also reminds residents that they can call them to figure out how best to remove ice and snow, or get a technician to help.
