The Lloydminster Rescue Squad is looking to have more hands on deck.
The Rescue Squad is currently a 15-volunteer team that provides emergency relief at car accidents, ice and water rescue situations and search and rescues. They also work in the air with drones, in water with remote underwater vehicles and with a dog team as well.
Captain Ryan LeBlanc says that working with the Rescue Squad takes a lot of effort, but is extremely rewarding.
“We don’t always see the best of things, but at the end of the day, it is a good feeling to go home at the end of the day knowing that we helped somebody. It’s overall a good feeling.”
As far as time commitment goes, the squad says that they don’t want to jeopardize anyone’s day work, but ask that volunteers go to emergencies as much as possible and attend monthly training sessions. Volunteers need to have a First Aid Level C, but Lloyd Rescue covers training, equipment and the personal protective equipment.
LeBlanc says there is no deadline to apply, but they are hoping to get to twenty volunteers soon.
“The sooner somebody comes on board the better. We do have limited sets of PPE and and turnout gear that we can provide to people, so it will be on a first come first serve based on that individual.”
