Lloydminster RCMP looking for new members

The Lloydminster RCMP is hoping to inspire some new police officers to join their ranks.

The detachment is putting on a Career Presentation to show people what kind of work, training go into policing and an overall “what you can expect” to help people make informed decisions as to if they want to join.

Constable Grant Kirzinger says that a grade twelve education is the only educational pre-requisite, and from there the RCMP covers the rest for selected candidates at The RCMP Depot Division course in Regina.

“It’s a six month process that will teach you everything from police sciences all the way to driving, firearms and defensive tactics. Just the whole host of policing aspects that you need to know in order to have a ground work for becoming a police officer.”

Kirzinger adds that an applicant must be ready to do what is required of them as far as position goes, and be willing to relocate if need be.

The session is open Wednesday, March 21st at 6 P.M, at the Lloydminster Detachment and anyone can attend. Kirizinger says this session will also help people understand what makes an ideal candidate to become an RCMP officer.

“There’s so many different ‘ideal candidates’ for the RCMP, but the best part is to have reasoning, logic and judgement of strengths. Being able to have lots of life experience, which doesn’t have to be one specific type, but just to have been able to experience things and are able to make decisions well.”

Anyone looking for more information on being an RCMP member can visit the RCMP Careers page.
