Lloydminster SPCA providing tips on what to do in a pet emergency

The Lloydminster and District SPCA says people can help their pet in an medical emergency, and their  “WalksN’Wags” program can show them how.

The program is nationally recognized first aid program and will cover what do if someone’s pet is injured, how to approach an injured animal safely to avoid harm to it and yourself, and later in the day the SPCA will provide Animal CPR courses.

Operational Manager Morgan Manners says that the pet first aid course provides major benefits to pet owners in both detection and to determine wether they can render help or if they should call a vet.

“It can help them to be more aware of some of these common illnesses, the signs and the recognition. Sometimes what we see, here in the shelter and veterinary clinics, is the signs aren’t always picked up on in the early stages.”

Manners says classes have room for twenty students and five dogs at the Royal Canadian Legion. If someone misses the upcoming April 8th session, there are other options.

“If they can’t make it to the course, they can always register online, and there’s a option to email when the next date is scheduled. So if this one doesn’t work for them, they would then get an email that a second date has been scheduled.”

Residents can register for the Pet First Aid course on the SPCA’s website. The course is $150.00, with all the money going towards the SPCA.
