Two Lloydminster girls to represent Canada on the world fighting stage

Two Lloydminster girls will be fighting for Canada on the world stage.

12 and 10 year old Abby and Izzy Sebree will be headed to Greece for the World Martial Arts Convention. The tournament will see athletes from all over the world competing in various martial arts events, and they will be competing in kickboxing.

The sisters have been kickboxers for some time now, and qualified for the Canada team at a regional tournament, placing first and second overall. Abby says this isn’t the first time they’ve been in the competitive environment.

“We’ve done other ones in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer before, and we’ve also done the in house Fight Farm tournament as well.”

Right now the girls are in training for their fights in Greece, which has them doing seven hours a week of training on top of their school day to prepare. While the girls say they are used to competitions, winning the fight is only part of tournaments.

“There’s all different kids of all different calibres. And sometimes there’s new people, sometimes you’ll even make friends with your opponents, which I’ve done lots.”

The World Martial Arts Convention runs May 4th to 6th.
