Firefighter’s Ball raising funds for local school

The Britannia Fire Department will be hosting their annual Firefighter’s Ball to honour their members and raise funds for a local school.

Deputy Chief of the Britannia Fire Department Aaron Buckingham says that their firefighters are going to be celebrated for their commitment to the community.

“The main purpose of the night has always been over the years to recognize our members for years of service and to me that’s the most important thing. We have a member getting a 25 years of service award, a 20 year of service award and four or five years of service awards this year.”

Over the years the event has turned into a fundraiser and this year the proceeds raised through ticket purchases will go to buying medical equipment for Hillmond Central School. Buckingham says the school is renting out there gym and will be needing new equipment in case of injury.

“Every year we do a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating grade 12 student from the money we raise at the Fireman’s Ball for a community minded student. On top of that, Hillmond school gym has just done a huge renovation.”

The event will be taking place on April 14 at the Stockade Convention Centre.
