Lloydminster Métis #18 putting on Celebration Day

Lloydminster Métis #18 is putting on Métis Celebration Day here in the community.

The group is a community organization that helps Métis people with work training and resources, education and housing among many other resources.  Local #18 President David Ross says this event is being put on to bring the community together.

“Well, we want to get all the people together in the community, just mingle, enjoy the music, eat some food together and have a good time.”

Ross adds that the event is not political by any means, just one for the community to get together, meet and to get a better understanding of each other.

Program coordinator Carla Fielder says the event is designed to show people and celebrate Métis culture.

“It’s a traditional Métis celebration, with traditional music, danicing, jigging, storytelling and traditional foods. It’s open to the public, anyone who wants to come.”

The Métis Celebration Day is April 8th, from 1 to 5 pm at the Lloydminster Civic Centre.
