Property owners will have more opportunity to get rid of organic waste

With the City bringing back the organics collection program for spring, property owners won’t have to change a lot in terms of disposing their waste.

Senior Manager of Waste Services Karen Dela Rosa says that the spring and summer seasons sees a lot more waste such as yard waste that has brought the program back for another year. However, this year the program will be scheduled for weekly pick ups.

“We’re just encouraging residents to be really mindful of what goes into their organics cart. Make sure that no non-organic material goes into that cart, so we’re not contaminating the organic loads.”

Dela Rosa adds that property owners don’t have to change anything that they’re doing currently with the program, as long as they know what constitutes as organic waste.

“Organic waste would be your food scraps, yard waste and even soiled cardboard like pizza boxes, for example can be considered organic waste.”

The organic carts will be collected on the same day as the waste and blue bags are currently for all residents.
