Lloydminster Kinsmen Club celebrates 90 years

The Lloydminster Kinsmen Club is celebrating 90 years of service in the community.

Chairperson of the event Darcy Wildeman says that they’re one of the oldest charter clubs in Canada and have done a lot throughout the years for Lloydminster.

“We were one of the original people to donate and fund raise for the outdoor pool back in the fifties, we were instrumental in the Archie Miller and the Civic Centre. We were also very instrumental in the Sandy Beach Park, we were the first people to put up a change house out there.”

The club currently has 24 members and fund raises all year long to support various organizations and charities within the community. Wildeman says that they’re constantly looking for different fundraising ideas.

“All service clubs are important to the community not just the Kinsmen. I think without the service clubs a lot of the community things wouldn’t exist. You can pull into any community you want and you’ll always see a playground that’s donated by the Kinsmen club or a park with the elk name on it type thing.”

The 90th Anniversary event will be taking place Saturday, April 21.
