LCSD schools to wear jerseys showing support for Humboldt

The Lloydminster Catholic School Division students will be wearing jerseys to show their support for the Humboldt community after their hockey team’s fatal bus crash.

Principal at St. Mary’s Elementary School Lori-Ann Betton says that the City has quite a large hockey community and with all the different fundraising events they wanted to make sure their students could help.

“We really wanted to dig deep and try to find something from our heart that would be meaningful, both to the kids and to the families that it’s intended for. So we thought, well hey why don’t we all just wear jerseys.”

St. Mary’s will also be holding a family dance on Friday, where families are encouraged to donate picture frames that will later be distributed to the families in Humboldt. Betton says that it shows their students that helping doesn’t always have to be through finances.

“It’s just another way to encourage them to help, even thought they may not understand the magnitude of the tragedy, but they can understand the helping piece of it.”

All the schools in the Catholic division will be participating in Jersey Day on Thursday.
