City council looking to talk taxes at “coffee and conversation”

City council is looking to talk one-on-one with residents about new changes coming to property taxes.

Recently, the city announced that property taxes will be going up, which the city says is needed to meet operations costs for Lloydminster. Mayor Gerald Aalbers says by doing this “Coffee and Conversation” session with residents, they can hear and address questions and concerns.

“We’re going to be gathering one more time  to discuss the upcoming tax noticing going out. People are going to have some questions, and were going to have some panel boards talking about where we’re at and where we want to go.”

Aalbers says in addition to that, the council wants to make sure they are moving forward in the most transparent way.

“When we deal with taxes, were really talking about finances. It’s really no different than the people at home. We have a plan, we want to share it with you. It involves every taxpayer, so we encourage people to come out, have a cup of coffee with us. It’s going to be more of a sit down, one-on-one.”

“Coffee and Conversation” is Wednesday, April 25th from 5:30 to 7 at Harvest to Home Market.
