Fire ban in effect for North Battleford

The City of North Battleford is under a fire ban due to dry weather conditions and high winds.

The City announced Thursday morning that the ban was in effect and North Battleford Fire Chief Trevor Brice says that the ban is expected to last for a few weeks, however they will be reviewing it every week.

“Well at the moment we got until further notice because of the current dry conditions and certainly wind. In this last week we’ve had a few grass fire starts, so really it’s that sort of season.”

The fire ban means controlled burning and any kind of burning outside of an approved fire pit is prohibited. Brice says that any fire pit in the City has to have a permit and be inspected by the fire department to be approved.

“If you do have fire don’t leave in unattended. Have some water available to extinguish it to keep it under control and ensure that it’s properly extinguished before you leave it. Pay close attention to the wind conditions etcetera and make a decision on whether it’s appropriate to use.”

The fire ban is in effect until further notice.
