12 local non-profits receive funding from United Way

United Way Lloydminster and District has given away over $70,000 to non-profit organizations in the City for 2018.

On Tuesday, the charity announced the organizations that will be benefiting from the funds they raised throughout the year, including $7,000 going to Ability Development Services by Bea Fisher, Catholic Social Services was given $7,100 and Inclusion Lloydminster was awarded $8,000.

President Brian Hanterman says this year they raised more money than previous years.

“We raised $73,000 to give away to our charities so that’s definitely up from last year at $60,000 and we’re working for an even better year this year coming up.”

United Way held various fundraisers last year to raise money for non-profits in Lloydminster. Hanterman says the highlight for him was their latest campaign that partnered with local businesses.

“I think our newest addition to our fundraising campaign was Paint the District Red campaign, which we just concluded here. We didn’t raise as much as I hoped, but there was some learning curve in that”

The campaign raised a little under $1,000, but Hanterman says his goal was modest at $2,000.

Other organizations who received funds include the Interval Home and Community Youth Centre, the Native Friendship Centre, Lloydminster Rescue Squad and Midwest Family Connections.

Hanterman says the United Way Lloydminster chapter will be seeing some changes for the upcoming year.

“Our chapter is gonna go through some transformation and how we distribute money and the number of charities we are going to give to on an annual basis so we can give more to certain ones.”

The restructuring of the chapter will be discussed further at their Annual General Meeting in June.
