Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre to undergo renovations

The Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre will go through exterior renovations to update and maintain the facility.

The renovations will include replacing the current cedar siding with steel cladding and stucco to improve the appearance of the building. There will also be paper wrap added around the building to reduce utility costs. Mayor Gerald Aalbers says the cedar siding has reached its lifespan.

“Administration had brought that forward last year in the budget, it came to Council for a decision because of the amount of money being spent on the exterior. The facility is 40 years old I understand and is need of some update.”

Bexson Construction in Lloydminster will be completing the project for $372,795.00. Aalbers says there was a tender process that took place before choosing the construction company.

“We have some requirements certainly when we spend the kind of money that we’re spending that we ensure we went out and looked for the best purchase price through a tender process. It was tendered and it’s great that a local company that employs local employees and is based in Lloyd got the chance to do the job.”

The project is expected to start sometime in the late summer or early fall depending on the construction company.
