Kitscoty will be holding an infant nutrition class for parents wanting to learn more about creating a healthy feeding relationship with their baby.
The two hour workshop is being offered through Alberta Health Services. Public Health Dietitian Jamaika Lukac will lead the class and will teach parents how to feed their baby solid foods, as well as make their own baby food.
“We also have hands on food demo, where I show the participant how to make their own baby food using a whole bunch of different kitchen tools like we have food processor or food mills. We really talk about the nutrition that baby needs, but also get the hands on showing you actually how to do it.”
The class is already being offered in 29 other communities, including the M.D. of Wainwright, M.D. of Provost and County of Vermilion. Lukac says it’s a great informal way to ask questions and connect with other parents.
“I think it’s a great chance for parents to talk amongst each other and have that community building aspect as well, especially in small towns like Kitscoty.”
Lukac adds that the class will end with parents comparing store bought baby food to their home made baby food.
The class is free to attend and parents are encouraged to bring their infants along. The next class is taking place on May 28 at the Kitscoty Community Health Centre. For more information or to register call 780-846-2824.
