Relay for Life still looking for participants in Lloydminster

The Relay for Life is still looking for volunteers and participants to help raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Fundraising Specialist Kalina Barlow says so far in Lloydminster and across Saskatchewan the numbers have declined, but there is still time for people to sign up.

“Teams register for the event and they work up until the event to do different fundraisers and getting pledges from family, friends and coworkers depending on how they choose to set it up. I know some of them fundraise all year round and some of them do it shortly before the event.”

Currently there are seven teams registered with 33 participants and 29 survivors taking part.

Last year the event raised over $40,000 with 17 teams participating. Barlow says the funds raised will go to the Canadian Cancer Society in a few different areas.

“They go towards cancer research, as well as to our support services and advocacy and prevention.”

Fundraising will also be taking place on site of the event at Bud Miller Park with a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.

The event will be taking place on June 1 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. To register or be a volunteer visit their website or call 306-244-4219.
