Lloydminster Vandals kick off home season

The Lloydminster Vandals are gearing up for their home opener Saturday.

The Vandals will play their first home game of the AFL season against the St Albert Stars at 5 P.M on Armstrong Field. The team hopes to have as many spectators as possible out this weekend, and will also be playing a field goal game with the audience.

Riley Gilroyed is a linebacker for the Vandals and the team rep. He says the team will be looking to build on their 3-5 record and playoff appearance last season.

“I think just as more chemistry is built, with the guys who come out more and more each time, that’s where we’ll continue to grow. Of course with the sponsorship and community support in that way, it makes a huge difference in our teams progress. We hope to see that continue more and more this year.”

In addition to just looking for spectators, Gilroyed says they are always looking for players to join the Vandal’s roster. He says they have full season and casual players, which helps them keep a full roster balanced with jobs, families, and injuries.

“We love to have anyone come out at any time. Even throughout the season if anybody is interested in coming out to join the Vandals they’re more than welcome.  We have players with skills that range from High School to CIS to even CFL combine level. ”

More information on the team and schedule can be found on the Vandals’ website.
