The 2017 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling has generated just under $50,000 in net profits for Lloydminster.
The City has released the financial report from the event they hosted in October at the Centennial Civic Centre. The report shows the overall revenue from the event was $274,895.66 and the expenses totalled $225,018.07 for a net profit of $49, 877. 59. Mayor Gerald Aalbers says the event had a huge value on the community.
“There is not a question I don’t think anybody would argue there was an economic benefit from hotels to restaurants to spending even to the gas of people coming and going.”
According to the report, $1,200 was spent on emergency personnel, $15,878.78 was spent on liquor, license and supplies and entertainment cost $6,400. The biggest cost by far was the Rogers hosting fee of $150,000. Aalbers says the money generated will be put into a reserve and later used to create a legacy project that will leave a mark on the community.
“There’s going to be a committee struck through administration and the team that put on Pinty’s, they’ll be coming back to council in a due time with a proposal or proposals as to where to put that money.”
In terms of revenue, the event made $44,612.34 from food and liquor sales, as well as over $150,000 from online ticket sales.
