All smiles at the first ever Pride in the Park

The LGBTQ+ society of Lloydminster has a great outcome at the first ever Pride in the Park to cap off Pride week.

Pride in the Park took place at Weaver Park on Saturday and brought the community together to celebrate people being themselves. Founder of LGBTQ+ Society Tiffani Weisner says they saw an overwhelming amount of people that they didn’t expect, around a hundred people showed up to the event.

“It will just be bigger and better next year. We will make it span over a longer period of time now knowing we can handle it. We just didn’t want to bite off more than we can chew without knowing how the response was going to be.”

The Society says everything was paid through their own dime this year and the goal is to eventually become an official non-profit.

“We found a lot of businesses in Lloyd to donate stuff so that helped a lot because we’re not registered as a non-profit yet so everything was out of pocket thus far with the exception of the few businesses who have donated.”

Wiesner says she thinks weaver park will be the location for the event next year as well and the group is always looking for help and members.

“If anyone else wants to get involved or help out with future endeavours just find us on the (Facebook)page we have a public events page or they can message the group or they could message me personally. On the events  group it does have our contact information.”
