School zones no longer in effect but residents encouraged to slow down

School is officially over which means school zones are no longer in effect, however, Lloydminster RCMP are encouraging residents to still slow down.

Constable Grant Kirzinger says during the summer months they do see a tendency for drivers to drive more quickly because road conditions are more favourable.

“We strongly encourage everybody to slow down especially in residential and school areas because there will be lots of children outside playing on front lawns, on bikes or even on playgrounds just trying to get to and from where they’re going.”

Kirzinger says unlike school zones, playground zones are in effect all year round.

“Those will be from 8:30 in the morning till one hour past sunset. In the summer that can actually be quite late into the evening so it’s always a good idea for motorists to keep that in mind and just be aware of that.”

School zones will be in effect once again in the fall.
