Proper training for commercial trucking needed: local truck driving instructor

Lloydminster commercial truck driving instructor says commercial drivers need to be trained properly and driving schools have the potential to make that happen under new initiatives.

On Tuesday the Government of Alberta announced three mandatory initiatives for commercial trucking in Alberta. The new initiatives would be :

  • Mandatory entry-level training for commercial drivers.
  • Pre-entry requirements for new commercial carriers.
  • Modifying the road test model for all driver’s licence classes.

For more information on the potential initiatives go to Alberta.ca. Owner of Border City Driver Training Ron Courtepatte says that there are drivers on the roads that might not be trained sufficiently.

“I think they should make every person getting a class one go to a driving school and get the proper training. I know there is lots of people that know how to drive but they don’t know how to drive properly.”

Courtepatte adds that the reason the province is implementing these new initiatives has to do with the Humboldt accident and constant complaints about commercial drivers.

“I really don’t think there will be much change to the driving. Maybe it might require more hours, that part I really don’t know, that depends on what the government decides.”
