Water quality advisory issued for Riverdale Mini Park Beach

Alberta Health Services is advising people not to swim in the Battle River at the Riverdale Mini Park Beach as elevated levels of fecal bacteria were detected.

At the current levels, gastrointestinal illness may result from contact with the water, as well as a possibility of skin, ear and eye infections. If people choose to use the river at the beach precautions should be taken such as avoiding contact with the face, mouth and ensure hands are washed after being in the river.

AHS is reminding residents and visitors to never cook or drink untreated water from the river because water-borne organisms can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water and signage will be posted at the beach. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
