Lloydminster rallies around family after death of mother

Over $8,000 has been raised for the Leask family after the sudden passing of mother Brandi Leask.

On Sunday, the 34-year old lost her life in a collision on Highway 17 north of Lloydminster, leaving behind four children and her husband Chad. A GoFundMe page has been started for the family with a goal of reaching $10,000. In two days the page has raised 85 per cent of the total funds they were asking for.

A friend and organizer Cody Bolt says it’s great how the community has pulled together to help a family in need.

“I know there’s been people sending out emails and stuff and it’s just awesome to see the community spread the word as quick as it did.”

Bolt has been a friend of the family for years and says the money will help Chad with their children, as well as giving him some financial stability.

“Cover all the funeral expenses because I know they don’t have anything set aside and then Chad doesn’t have to worry about getting back to work right away. Cover some bills around the house so he doesn’t have to stress out about leaving his kids.”

Friends of the couple are also organizing a slo-pitch tournament on the weekend of July 28 at the Legion Ball Diamonds. Each player will pay $40 to participate and all the money raised will go to the Leask family.

Bolt says Leask was an amazing person.

“She was always so happy to be around anybody. Whenever you’re having a bad day she’d always cheer people up. She helped out with schools a lot with her kids and being involved with them as much as she could be. She was a rock for her family.”

If people want to donate to the family the GoFundMe page is still active.
