79 tickets issued to new drivers in Saskatchewan: SGI

New drivers in Lloydminster and across Saskatchewan are being reminded to “Keep practising.” The Saskatchewan Government Insurance says police have issued 79 tickets in June to new drivers and motorcyclists who weren’t following their license requirements.

46 tickets were issued for driving without a supervising driver, 25 tickets were issued for not following the restrictions, five tickets were issued for driving a vehicle while under 16 without authorization and three were issued for not displaying properly ‘L’ for learner or ‘N’ for novice on their motorcycle.

In the Border City, rules vary depending on which side of the province people live in, but new drivers should study up on the rules of the road. SGI says things like knowing what restrictions are in place for licences, as well as practising driving with supervision will help develop good driving habits.

SGI also says “New drivers and riders are also not allowed to use a cellphone while operating a vehicle, not even hands-free.” There is also zero tolerance for alcohol or drugs for people with a Graduated Drivers License.

Aside, from focusing on new drivers, police have also issued tickets for aggressive driving or speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving and inappropriate or no seatbelts.
