The Bonnyville RCMP are warning residents of a new scam.
ATCO Electric says it has received reports of phone calls to local businesses, from a person claiming to be an ATCO employee. The company’s legitimate toll-free number showed up on their caller display, but they were given a separate call back number. The businesses were then told that their service would be disconnected in two hours unless they paid a the caller with a pre-paid card.
The RCMP say that if you receive a suspicious call from ATCO, hang up, and call their toll free number of 1-800-668-2248.
