Co-op announces new program for first responders

Emergency first responders in the city will now be able to get a free cup of coffee at Lloydminster and District Co-op locations. On Tuesday, the Cup of Caring program was announced by the company to say thank you to the men and women in uniforms.

“We hope they feel acknowledged, respected and appreciated,” says Lloydminster Co-op Vice President of Operations Leanne Hawes. “We hope that they know that certainly from the support of not only our facilities but our members that we appreciate their services. If we can offer you a cup of coffee as a way to say thank you please come in.”

The program will be offered at three gas bar locations in the city including Ironwells, Hampton Square and 18 Street Crossing. The cup of coffee is offered to the Lloydminster RCMP, the Fire Department, the Rescue Squad, WPD Ambulance, Emergency Care Services and the Canadian Forces Base in Cold Lake and Wainwright.

“What they’ve done for us today offering us coffee may seem like a small gesture, but for people in this occupation where seconds matter and it can be the difference between life and death, coffee goes a long way,” says Fire Chief Jordan Newton.
