This weekend 12 players, one family, one team and one community will be inducted into Saskatchewan’s Baseball Hall of Fame. The Keller family and player Lorne Nielsen both from Wilkie will be among those inducted on Saturday.
Nielsen says when he learned about his induction a few months ago he wasn’t surprised since he has been sitting on the selection committee for years. Despite, the lack of shock he says it was still an honour. Nielsen has also been selected to speak on behalf of the inductees during the ceremony.
“We all have many people that we would like to thank. Right from our parents to the coaches and even players and people that inspire us to keep doing what we’ve been doing for 50 years.”
Also, included in this year’s class in the team category is the Carlyle Cardinals from Carlyle, SK and Leader, SK will be the town honoured in the community category.
Nielsen says the induction day will begin with a lunch in and will lead into a tour of the Saskatchewan’s Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
“These tours from 11 a.m. to 2 in the afternoon and people can come and go as they wish. They have a little bit more displays for this year’s inductees than they normally would throughout the year.”
The induction ceremony will take place at the Museum in Battleford.
