Lloydminster swim club wins big at provincials

The Lloydminster Rebels Swim Club win 13 medals at provincials in Edmonton. TheĀ Alberta Summer
Swimming Association provincials took place at Kinsmen Sports Centre last weekend with close to 1,000 participants.

Head Coach Denise Totman says not only the kids participating but the parents felt the excitement of the biggest event Kinsman holds each year.

“A couple of my parents when I said “there are about a thousand swimmers there” theirĀ jaws dropped. They were quite amazed there would be that many there.”

The Rebels came home with 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronzes in individual events and 2 silver and 1 bronze in relays.

In order to qualify for Provincials, swimmers must complete a swim meet before regionals at the beginning of August and then The top 2 swimmers from the competitions make theirĀ way to provincials. The Rebels had 41 swimmers qualify for the competition which is the most they’ve had in the past eight years of the club.

“It means we are doing things right. Kids are having fun, competing hard and loving their sport. That’s what we should all be working towards.”
