Games manager hired for Sask. Summer Games

Preparations for the 2020 Saskatchewan Summer Games continue as the Host Society hires a games manager. The games will be held in Lloydminster for the second time and will see around 2,000 athletes and coaches taking part.

Games Manager Nicole Clow comes into the role with previous experience managing the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford and the 2016 summer games in Estevan. She says her role is to work with the host committee to make sure the games go off without a hitch.

“It’s our job as a whole to make sure that the games are executed in 2020 and make sure that the athletes and coaches and families that come to town are taken care of and all of their needs are met.”

Clow was also an athlete at the games in 2004 and a coach in 2008 when Lloydminster first held the games.

The event will be held from July 26 to August 1, 2020. Chair Kevin Kusch says they are on track with planning and their next big item is creating a schedule for the games.

“The beginning of October we have all the provincial sports governing bodies coming to Lloyd to meet with us for two days to check with our facilities, layout exactly how those sports are going to look and we finalize the schedule for 2020.”

Kusch says the schedule will allow the committee to start planning athletes village and legacy pieces for the city.

The games are two years out and Clow says her next steps are to meet with the committees and get an understanding of current plans and goals then set a timeline for execution.
