Local cannabis shop looking for employees

Plantlife will be one of the pot shops opening its doors in Lloydminster once the October 17 legalization date comes around. Before residents freely purchase marijuana the store is looking for employees to run the shop.

The cannabis chain is planning on opening its first store in Lloydminster on the Alberta side. Their job fair is on Saturday at 8 p.m. and will be held in Plantlife’s new location at 4215 80 Avenue. Co-Owner Tyler John says they’re looking for Lloydminster residents that are well informed in cannabis products.

“We’re gonna set up a table and go through some interview questions. Talk about product knowledge and why they want to be involved. Ask as many questions as possible and make sure we build the right team.”

The company behind Plantlife also owns the Canadian Brewhouse. John is currently a co-owner of the restaurant in Lloydminster. He says his experience as business owner and working with the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission makes owning a cannabis shop a natural fit.

“We’ve dealt with AGLC for so many years with being involved in a controlled substance with them. We already know the laws, we have a good relationship with AGLC and we know how to deal with alcohol and cigarettes. I think it was a good fit.”

Under the AGLC, cannabis shop employees in Alberta have to be approved as a “Qualified Cannabis Worker” by completing a SellSafe Cannabis Staff Training program, as well as an application package.

Plantlife is currently looking for a budtender, retail manager and security. For more information visit their website.
